Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley is expected to file a motion in Parliament today, calling on President George Maxwell Richards to immediately dismiss Nizam Mohammed as chairman of the Police Service Commission.

“The Opposition expects the Government to make provisions to have this motion debated as a matter of urgency,” Rowley said.

Rowley renews call for Nizam’s removal

Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley yesterday told President George Maxwell Richards that chairman of the Police Service Commission, Nizam Mohammed’s appointment must be terminated for his irresponsible behaviour in public office. Rowley met with the President at Knowsley, Queen’s Park West, to discuss statements made by Mohammed about an ethnic imbalance in the Police Service.

Rowley said there was likely to be racial conflicts from time to time but they must be handled in a mature and civilised way. He said what the Opposition would not accept was for “individuals to go off on a tangent of their own, self-serving in this instance, seeking to divide us on the basis of our racial origin.”
