According to the Central Statistical Office (CSO) the entire workforce of Trinidad & Tobago is 647,000.
As of the end of 2015 the unemployment rate was around 3.7% or 24,000. If we add the 50,000 people that lost their jobs in the past 44 months. 24,000 + 50,000 = 74,000. Subtract 74,000 from 647,000 = 573,000 or an unemployment rate of 11.5%.
Now add the 40,000 Venezuelans to the unemployment list. 74,000 + 40,000 = 114,000. Now add 40,000 to the workforce 647,000 = 687,000. Now Subtract 114,000 from 687,000 = 573,000 or an unemployment rate of 16.5%
