A BLANCHISSEUSE family remains traumatised after a gardener and father of two was shot in the face and killed as he slept on a bed next to his horrified wife in their home during the early morning hours yesterday.
According to a police report, at about 2.20 am, gardener Devanand Ramdass was asleep in the bedroom of his Blanchisseuse Road, Arima home next to his 34-year-old wife when they were both awakened by the sound of loud banging on the front door of the house.
Two men forced their way into the house and entered the couple’s bedroom. One of the intruders pushed Ramdass’ wife to the side while the other pointed a shotgun at the gardener’s face. A shot rang out and Ramdass slumped to his bed, blood pouring from his face which was almost blown-off by the shotgun blast.

A 34-year-old gardener from Arima was chopped to death in front of his wife when a group of men invaded his home early yesterday. Police said around 2.20 am Devanand Ramdass and his wife were asleep at their home at Blanchisseuse Road, Arima, when they were awaken by loud banging on their front door. As the couple got out of bed to check on the disturbance, two men with cutlasses entered their bedroom.
Ramdass’s wife told police the intruders pushed her aside and then attacked her husband, chopping him numerous times as she watched helplessly. As Ramdass loss conciousness, the men threatened his wife and left the house. Police arrived within minutes, but Ramdass was pronounced dead on the scene by a District Medical Officer.
